We offer a ‘Doctor First Service’ for patients to book appointments with a doctor. This is a system that has been successfully adopted in other practices around the country.
The main difference will be that when an appointment is requested the receptionist will arrange for a doctor call you back at an allotted time (this will be adhered to as much as possible)
When you speak to the doctor a short consultation will be offered to decide the best way to deal with the problem. This may be simple advice, a decision to offer a prescription, a referral to a specialist, a medical certificate, or an appointment to see another member of the surgery team such as the practice nurse or healthcare assistant.
You will however be offered a consultation to come in and see the doctor if either or both of you feel that it is needed after the discussion. It may also be more appropriate if the problem is an ongoing one for you to see the doctor who you have seen previously and this can also be arranged.
You will be able to come in to the surgery on the same day if it is deemed necessary or at another time if this is more convenient.
Appointments are often required in advance for review of ongoing chronic conditions. We will still do this but will use the new system to do so. A short telephone consultation when the appointment is due will allow you to arrange to see the doctor within a few days or indeed on the day you call if our demand on that day makes it suitable.
For patients who have difficulty attending surgery during the week we offer pre-bookable routine appointments with the doctor on Saturday mornings.
Nurses based in our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions. Urgent cases will be seen as soon as possible. Please see the ‘clinics & services’ section.
If you need urgent medical advice during surgery hours, please phone the surgery on the above numbers and be prepared to give some information to the receptionist.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
Why might it be difficult to get an appointment?
The surgery telephone lines are particularly busy during the first two hours each morning, especially on Mondays. Please bare with us, we have all our lines manned at the peak times and try our best to answer your call as quickly as possible.
